Horoscope Part Eighteen

I stood at the dinner table, nibbling on a cooked baby carrot. I could feel Fallon glaring at me. I looked over at Markus. He grinned weakly. I could tell that he too felt the tension. But how could you not? Unless you were his mom.“So. Markus. You haven’t introduced me to your friends yet.” His mother stated. Markus nodded towards us, swallowing his previous mouthful of food.“Okay, well, the tall girl with dark hair and blue eyes is Katie. The one beside her with dreadlocks is Tyson. The boy with dark hair and brown hair beside Fallon is Saul and the really tall girl with brown hair and eyes is Cassie. The girl with blue eyes and blonde hair is Mara and this one beside me is Taylor.” He explained. His mother smiled at every one of us.“Welcome to our home. So are you runaways?” She asked. I smiled and shook my head.“No, we have people going after us” I stated. Markus coughed slightly as his mom’s eyes widened.“Oh! Why are people going after you all?” She asked. I shook my head.“Well, really they’re after me because they need me for something. I can’t go into it further. Family issues. But they want to use the others as leverage, we think.” I explained. Markus turned to look at me as if pleading me to stop. I simply looked back, trying to communicate with my eyes. Fallon suddenly spoke up.“mom. I’m full. I’m going to bed, okay?” He asked. His mother nodded.“Okay sweetie. Have a good sleep, okay?” She asked. Fallon nodded dismissively.“It’ll be hard, but I’ll try.” He stated, looking over at me. I felt a chill run down my spine. Fallon seemed to smile with his eyes as he turned back around. I sighed, stuffing a mouthful of potatoes in my mouth. Boys were so confusing sometimes…“Sorry you had to sit through that”I looked up at Markus who smiled at me as we sat in one of the many bedrooms in his house. I smiled and shook my head walking over.“Don’t worry about it. It was interesting. I just hope my mom buys that I was just going to a friends house for a week..” I said softly. Markus sighed.“Hopefully this whole ‘in hiding’ thing only takes a week.” He said gently. I nodded, hugging my knees in my penguin pyjamas. He smiled and leaned over, gently kissing my forehead.“Don’t worry. It’ll be over before you know it.” He said gently. I sighed.“But what if it isn’t? or we lose..” I asked. Markus shook his head and sighed.“Then we die trying. It’s okay. In four years, all spirits who have died will re-appear in other bodies. So even though we aren’t alive we still get to fight. And it’ll go on like that until there is true peace and Hera and Zeus stop this fight.” He explained. I nodded.“But… you said that spirits take over..” I said gently. Markus smiled tilting my face up with his finger, gazing into my eyes. I felt something wash over me, but ignored it as I listened to him.“Only if you use your powers more than necessary or your spirit is dark” He stated. I remained silent for a moment searching his eyes.“Does that mean.. Fallon will die?” I asked. Markus let go of me and looked at his feet.“Maybe… he fights with his spirit a lot over the control over his body… regardless he is pretty strong so I think he can take him… I just hope he doesn’t use his powers too much…”Markus said quietly. I nodded quietly. Markus smiled and kissed my cheek softly in reassurance.“don’t worry. Just get some sleep, okay?” He asked. I nodded softly as Markus pulled away and walked out. As soon as he was gone, I climbed into my bed and pulled the covers up to my neck. I tried staying awake to keep watch in case someone came in through a mirror, but I was so warm, it was hard to. Before I knew it I had fallen asleep. I was suddenly awoken by my door opening. In the dark I saw a figure walking towards me, shutting the door behind them. I felt someone crawling towards me on the bed. Looking up I saw Markus on his hands and knees above me in the moonlight, stroking my cheek. I stared up at him as he lowered himself, getting closer and closer to my lips. I quickly put one finger in between our mouths.“Again, Fallon?” I asked. His green eyes glistened as he stepped away, grinning. I sat up, my eyes narrowing.“Okay, so what was that about?” I asked angrily. He shrugged.“All of our spirits have histories. Like Cancer and Aries were best friends. How ever you and I.. were lovers you know” He stated. I glared at him.“Well too bad for you. Think for your self.” I stated, gripping my blankets and pulling myself further away from him. Fallon grinned leaning into my face, his lips just inches away from mine.“but I am..” He muttered. I quickly leapt away, moving to the other side of the room.“So am I. I don’t want to make out with you. You’re shrouded in darkness” I snarled. Fallon grinned, leaning against the wall on the other side of the room. “So if I was on your side, everything would be cool?” he asked. I stuttered for a moment.“T-t-that’s not what I meant you ass!” I snarled. Fallon threw back his head and laughed. Not one of his usual angry/evil laughs. But a real, heartfelt laugh. “I know what you meant. But your so emotional, you know. Its hard not to pick on you.” he stated, then moved towards the door, “I’ll try and rape you another night” he joked. I smirked, glaring at him.“Just try it” I hissed. Fallon smiled as he walked out. I wanted to ask him why he was smiling but he was already gone. I sighed, climbing back into bed and closing my eyes. But as I did so, Mara burst from the mirror.“They’re here. All of them” She stated. I leapt up, looking confused as I transformed.“You’re kidding me!” I exclaimed. Mara shook her head.“Would I honestly be waking you up at this time if I was joking?” She asked. I nodded.“Good point.” I stated, opening the door and running down the stairs while thinking, “shit, shit, shit!”
